father's day

How sweet that God gives our earthly minds a concrete image of himself as Father when he created the family and established the role of Daddy. My dad is the greatest example to me of the loving, wise, and teaching father heart of God.

Mac McDonald has always been our fearless leader. Daddy is strong yet gentle and the wisest man I have ever met. So much of what I know, from car engines to engineering to God's sovereignty to treehouse building to economics, I owe to him- he has been busy teaching me about God and the world since the day I was born. Dad loves hiking and being outdoors and sailing and long walks and conversations about scripture and learning about everything and seeking Jesus and memorizing the word and all of these things, I now love too.

Dad never gets lost and he has a nearly perfect sense of direction. He is rarely rash and has taught me by example to pray and consider and seek counsel before making a decision. He never raises his voice in anger and yet commands respect from everyone he knows. He knows something about everything and always has wisdom for me no matter what the topic I am asking about. He is diligent and works so hard and spends money carefully and frugally. I know that even when I disappoint him, he will love me the same because I am, and will forever be, his daughter.

Dad gives the best hugs and has given me red roses on my birthday for my entire life and protects and supports and guides and strengthens me and shows me so well the faithful provision and love of my father in heaven.

Oh, and he tells me that I can stand close to the edge of the cliffs as long as I'm holding his hand.
