oh, christmas tree
to remember the joy and simple magic of wandering through the farm, searching for the perfect tree, for finally selecting the one, sawing it down, and carrying it home. of draping greenery on every surface i can. the joy of trimming it with sweet girls who turned up the music and danced unhindered. of sugar cookies and greasy pizza. of turning all the lights out, lighting the candles, snuggling up, and sipping mulled wine to watch the twinkles like a show.
it's covered with the cutest hand-made ornaments from his childhood and it takes up half of our tiny living room.
it bids us sit a while longer and savor more. it helps me still quietly and ponder the coming of light into darkness, the advent of Christ.
