Saturday
Ruth is sleeping across from me on the couch where she accidentally fell asleep waiting to go to the petting zoo. Her cheeks are flushed and her tiny chest rises and falls with each slow breath. We went to urgent care this morning to get her foot checked out; she's been limping since I hit her with the cart at Costco on Thursday. The doctor said she thought it was fine, thankfully. Just one of those things that's the perfect fodder to keep you awake in the middle of the night: does running into my child and maybe breaking their foot with the Costco cart make me a terrible mother? Today my elbows are deep in creation and cultivating beauty, and I love it. In the meantime everything is a wreck, but the oxen are here and the crib is not clean but good things are coming. Beef is braising in the oven, ever so slowly, for a celebratory dinner tonight with my CO-coworkers, The deck is covered in potting soil from re-potting all of our houseplants, and filling up new planters with flowers.
