on to-do lists

there's something about being able to put a check in a box. but you're only allowed to check the box once you've finished the thing beside it. accomplishment.

it's all mom's fault; this obsession with lists. i have lists for everything in my life, but especially for what i have to get done every/single/day. i was looking through these hundreds of lists today. mini legal pads, fancy check-boxes provided to-do list papers, and spiral notebooks. each filled with tasks i needed to do.
it was moving, really, to see all of the check marks. all of the schoolwork finished, all of the beds made, all of the errands run, all of the notes written, all of the times i made myself go run, and the endless college acceptance journey-- from
"think about where to go to school"
to "ask mrs g about the letter of recommendation"
to "take ACT practice tests"
to "start application essays"
to "send over JSA grades"
to "FINNISH APPLICATION" and on and on.
every step, it seems, has been recorded in this unique way. and now i'm here.
i'm here, i'm HERE.
these days, it goes "call mrs Bond about invitations"
and "get senior pictures"
and "buy dishes for college"
every task a stepping stone a little closer to my dreams. ending high school and marching to pomp and circumstance. and going away to join the big, big world as a little girl in a giant city.

it's really happening. and every time i finished math homework and learned to cook and hung my clothes and ministered to others i got a little closer to where i am today.

accomplishment, you are so sweet.

"a desire accomplished is sweet to the soul..." proverbs 13:19
